Homeopathy is about individuality. The more I can understand about you, the more accurately I can prescribe for you. So the information that you are able to give me is oviously a vital part of your treatment.
For this reason, the initial consultation is very extensive and may cover unfamiliar ground - especially if you're used to a few brief questions from a busy GP. Of course I will need to know all about your main complaint (after all, that's the reason why you've come to see me!) but, as well as the symptoms themselves, it's important for me to understand your experience of them.
I'll ask you to describe - as fully as possible and in your own words - what it is that bothers you most about the condition that's led you to consult me. So, as a broad example, if pain is your main problem I'll ask you to describe the type of pain, how it makes you feel, what kind of image it brings to mind and so on.
From time to time it might seem as though I'm asking you to describe the same thing over and over again. That's not because I haven't been listening (honest!) but because I'm trying to get as deep an understanding as possible of your experience of your symptoms.
In addition, I'll ask about your past medical history, any medications you're on and your general energy levels. Consequently, the first appointment takes about two hours (but I promise you - it's time well spent!)
Follow-up consultations are an equally vital part of the process. At least one follow-up is required about four weeks into the treatment so that we can assess your response to the remedy and whether or not I need to make any adjustments. They typically take about an hour.
The necessity and timing for future appointments will depend on how well you're doing. Once the initial course of treatment is complete, six-monthly check-ups are a good way to nip in the bud any minor symptoms that may arise from time to time.
